Below are my Southern California farmer friends that I see at the farmers markets in Santa Monica, Mar Vista, Hollywood, Culver City, Brentwood and Venice. Let me introduce them to you.
Here with Frank from John Givens Farm out of Goleta, CA next to Santa Barbara. Their certified organic produce like tomatoes, arugula, dandelion and collard greens, snap peas and string beans are out of this world.
Here with Goyo and Joe Sr. from JR Organic Farm & CSA in Escondido, CA. This family business is best known for their winter and summer squashes, strawberries, cucumbers and beautiful lettuces!
With Jesse from Tenerelli Orchards. They are known far and wide in Southern California for amazing sweet peaches! Come fall, apples and pears are aplenty. Don’t miss out!
South Central Farmers Co-Operative is a certified organic urban farm in South Los Angeles that is steeped in rich history regarding land rights, farmers and use of public land. Know them and definitely take home one of their fresh salsas!
With Chao from Fresno Evergreen Farms in Fresno, California. They specialize in Asian greens but also grow bell pepers, purple and yellow cauliflower, fresh garlic and ginger, tomatoes, purple sweet potatoes and fresh herbs like lemon, thai and holy basil for tea. Their practices are not certified organic but they are a completely sustainable farm.
If you ever get a chance to visit Santa Rita Organics at one of South Cali’s markets, definitely do. Their tomato varieties are endless, their greens are as vibrant as you could possibly imagine and everything is just so fresh and alive! I am so happy to know them.
Fat Uncle Farms, in Wasco Ca. is one of very few sustainable and bio-diverse almond growers in Southern California. They keep their own bees to for pollinating the orchard and are constantly evolving to be a more sustainable and drought-friendly practice. Buy their almonds!
Here I am with Maria who is owner of Elser’s Country Farm. They are a certified organic family farm in Yucaipa, CA and their selection is small, very special and everything is heirloom: Tomatoes, squashes, chili peppers and lettuces are aplent
With Scott from Tamai Family Farms in Oxnard, CA. They are a sustainable agri-chemical free farm best known for their strawberries and tomatoes.3
Jimenez Family Farms is a sustainable farm located in the Santa Ynez Valley. Their greens are spectacular and come spring, garlic scapes and tomatillos peek out. They are also known for specialty meats like duck, rabbit, lamb and pork.
Tutti Frutti organic farm located in the Santa Ynez Valley and they grow a variety of fresh bounty but for me it’s all about their heirloom tomatoes, plums galore, heirloom carrots, beautiful squash and sweet peas. Make sure to visit their stand!
LA FungHi has THE largest selection of mushrooms in Southern California and they even have truffles when they are in season. Their offerings are endless and a complete source for chefs, home-cooks and serious foodies!
You can always count on Rutiz Family Farms in Arroyo Grande, CA for a gorgeous lush selection of greens, leeks, fennel, garlic, squash, citrus, stonefruit, corn, potatoes, berries and avocados. They use only organic fertilizers and no pesticides.
